It looks like I will be living in Pe Ell, Washington, at least until I find another job.
That should give Mike in West Seattle some material.
I was up there a few days last week and it looks like most locals are quite friendly, even if they do vote predominantly Republican.

If there happens to be a pole yard in Pe Ell, you'll feel right at home.

Um, well, something kinda ironic happened today at work. We have a fairly new way of ringing up plumbing pipe cutting and threading, and it doesn't occur often enough to where it's second nature for us yet. One of the yard guys had written up what looked like "PF", and when the cashier entered that, it didn't work. I remembered another way to look it up, and was reminded that it is "PL".
So, I just stood there, and said "PL, PL, PL," a few times to the other cashier, and thought of hobya, and this thread while doing so!

I think they're only "Pe Ells" if they're attached to a urinal, Mike.

I tried to be polite at first and pronounce it "Pay Ell", but the locals would have none of that, preferring the "Pee".
As I mentioned before, most folks seem quite friendly. I did notice one hint of discontent though. In one window of a fleamarket type shop I spotted some interesting antique mechanical items. My gaze then fell on a small handwritten sign. "Nothing in this room for sale! Don't ask, just leave!".
On that note, I am signing off until I get my computer set up in the new digs.

That reminds me of a story about my mother. Mom was an avid antique collector, and quite an authority on many genres. Eventually she was forced to open her own shop in order to finance her avocation, and have a place for the overlow! But some things she really did not want to part with, So if you went into her store, you would find items marked $100,000.00 or $1,000,000.00. Which was her way of displaying things and yet making sure no one would buy them.
